In this 7 days of mourning for Singapore, what I saw was a different side of what I perceived Singapore to be. Thanks to our founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, indeed he has taught us the importance of unity, the importance of standing by as one body of this nation.
I was amongst the crowd last Friday night, wanting to queue for the next 10 hours to pay respect to Mr LKY, but was a failure because they closed the queue all the way until 6 am. So we all directed ourselves to Tanjong Pagar CC at the tribute centre to see more and more people queuing to write condolence book/ cards. It was 2am in the morning, but the centre crowd seemed as though it was only evening.
I saw a heartwarming scene of a group of volunteers along the queue giving out cards and mineral waters, a group of personnels thanking Singaporeans for paying their respects to Mr LKY. And from the news and Facebook articles, I've seen people lending out their generosity with free refreshments, free umbrellas, free taxi rides and high authority personnels thanking the locals for coming to pay respects. And That was a heartwarming scene of a...
family funeral.
Yes, indeed we are a family of Singapore, and as our founding father passes on, what's gonna happen next? As the nation grows like an infant growing up to a mature adult, there should be a certain age of maturity where we knew that we have to continue to stand firm on this ground to contribute and build up this nation, where Mr LKY stopped. And after this 7 days of mourning, I believe that Singapore has to go on, continue to move forward, continue to strive for the nation and continue with our lives. Mr LKY has left us a lasting legacy, so has he left us with his vision for Singapore.
You will be in our heart.
